A week off work - what shall we do?

So, Rob and I have the week off work and had made no plans. We spent Monday and Tuesday doing some bits around the house and decided that on Wednesday we were going to go out.

We booked the dog walker so we wouldn't have to be back too quickly and then thought about what to do.....

We were going to go to Thorpe Park but came to the conclusion that it would probably be super busy. I then thought about London (maybe the London Eye) but figured parking would be a hassle - we could drive part of the way and then take a train....but expensive...!

Finally, after a search on the internet we decided to go to Gunwharf Quays at Portsmouth. We could do some shopping and take a trip up the Spinnaker Tower.

We had a nice easy drive to Portsmouth and parked in the Gunwharf parking - expensive but Rob was very impressed with the little lights which indicate whether a space is occupied or not!

We got a breakfast sub at Subway and then did a little bit of shopping before heading up the tower.

There are some great views from the top - and Rob took a few photos. Even with the glass they have come out quite well I think!

They have this glass floor on part of the viewing platform which you are encouraged to walk across.....such a weird feeling!

This is the view from the glass floor:

There are 3 different viewing platforms, one with a coffee shop and the top floor has no roof but there is still glass all around which makes photos more difficult. We took a couple of photos of each other though:

Here's Rob on the glass floor:

So we went back down and took a few photos looking up at the tower.....seems really tall from down here!

I did a bit of googling when we got home - cos I was puzzled by the outside lift that doesn't seem to be in use....discovered that it hasn't been working since the tower opened in 2005 (which was 6 years late) and most likely it isn't ever going to work! Last update said it was planned to be in service in 2007 - well it's 2011 now and still not working!

Anyway, we went for some lunch and due to the lovely weather we were able to sit outside - which is a rare event!

We did a little more shopping and I picked up some sandals to go with a dress I bought earlier in the year. Then drove home with the roof down!

I guess we got lucky with the weather - cos today it is pouring with rain!
