Tennis at the O2 Nov 2012!
So, Monday morning and we didn't have to go to work...! Yay! Even better, we were going to get to watch some tennis :)
The plan was to go and find some breakfast before heading to the O2 so we took the boat from the hotel to canary wharf.
We walked along and headed into a shopping centre where we found somewhere to get breakfast. The afterwards we set about trying to find the tube station :)
One quick stop on the jubilee line and we were at the O2.
It was much busier than last night but we had some time and so we had a look around at the various stalls (for want of a better word).
We 'won' some tennis balls in a game of air hockey at the Barclays stall and got a free bag from Nissan after registering our details via a very complicated process ;)
We saw Ross practicing with Louis whilst we were wandering around. We eventually decided to head into the arena to wait for the start of the doubles.
Grabbed a quick drink on the way in and then took our seats.
Some guy was out on the court practicing........not sure if you'll recognise him?
Andy finished off his practice and then it was time for the doubles to start.
I spotted Pat and went over to have a quick chat before the tennis started :)
We got Nestor/Mirnyi vs Lindstedt/Tecau. Neither team are a particular favourite of mine....I especially dislike Lindstedt though as he has always been so miserable when I have seen him play :(
The match was quite entertaining but not the best doubles I have seen. Lindstedt was ridiculously grumpy as normal - as shown by him throwing his racquet on the floor after they lost the match! The points were quite short and soon it was Andy time!
This was an extremely tense match. Andy had seven break points in the first set but couldn't take any of them....and then Berdych grabbed one when he got the chance and held on to take the set.
It was clear at this point that the match would be decided on just a few points and so hopefully Andy would get through.
The second set was better...and Andy won it so hope was not lost :)
So, onto the third set and we really wanted Andy to come through this match.
The crowd were very much behind Andy but it was very difficult to generate any atmosphere due to the loud music played at every change of ends....and the fact that we were all so terrified that Andy might not win :(
Finally though we got the result we wanted :)
So pleased to see an Andy win at the O2!
After the match we headed back outside and I have to say the O2 seems to have got better at crowd control since the last time we saw tennis here :)
We had another go at the Barclays air hockey game and got another set of tennis balls so we could each have a set.
Whilst waiting in the queue we saw this guy:
Unfortunately not the best piccy cos the flash was turned off on my phone and so it went a bit wrong but how exciting.....it's MoLay!
We wandered around for a little bit longer and found Chris, Zainab, Pat and a few others. We had a chat then left Jennifer as we headed back to the hotel to get the car.
Ridiculously it then took us 1hr37 to get out of London...and only about 1hr30 to do the rest of our journey home!
We had a great day though and it was so lovely to see Andy play again!
