Barcelona and Greece 2014: Background and Good Friday

Background

So, back a few months ago we were discussing our plans for Easter with Jennifer. We agreed we would go away and Iceland and Slovenia were possible destinations.

The following day we got a text message from our friends Becky and George to say that they were finally getting married (after several years) and the wedding would be taking place in George’s village in Greece!

So, following revised plans we decided to go to Barcelona with Jennifer (and her boyfriend Tom) and then headed to Greece for the wedding – whirlwind few days coming up!

Good Friday

After travelling to London Southend airport on Thursday evening we had an early start this morning for our flight to Barcelona.

We left Southend at 7am and arrived in Barcelona at 10; we then got a taxi to the Hilton and checked in. We got a room despite being early so we unpacked and then met Jennifer and Tom in the lobby. We headed into town and we were already hungry so Tom found us somewhere to get lunch.

We then headed toward the beach, along the way we spotted a cable car and decided to go see how much it cost to take a ride. We got there and the line didn’t seem too bad – how wrong could we be? The line moved incredibly slowly and it took us forever to even get up to the top!

We eventually got into the cable car and the view was pretty good despite the long wait.

Over the other side and we then went looking for a castle – up a giant hill and we found it but it was less than an hour before closing so we decided to just walk around the edge.
Doesn't really fit the time period!

At this point we found what looked like a mini bike park – Tom read the sign and determined that it was some kind of children’s play park.....so weird!

We took a ride down the giant hill in another more modern cable car and as we were in the neighbourhood we decided to swing past the Olympic Stadium.

Our next attraction was a museum – pretty to look at from the outside and at the top of yet another big hill which had many steps and some fountains. Tom explained that there was a light show that happened on certain evenings. We determined from the guidebook that it would be a little while before the show and so we decided to watch them another night.

Off in search of dinner and we found an Easter egg parade (OK, not really but it was an Easter parade) which made life a little difficult for a while.

By this time Rob and I were getting tired after our early start so we headed back to the hotel to sleep.
