Olympics Tennis at Wimbledon - Sat 28th July (Part 3)

So, back to court 2 and the Isner/Rochus match had finished. Isner had come through in straight sets - not sure of the score though. Next up: Li Na (Na Li) vs Daniela Hantuchova We arrived back at the court during the warm up and Jennifer had left to get food so we texted her to let her know we were back. We moved to the other side of the court so our view was slightly obstructed by the umpire but we thought we might have an autograph opportunity later.... Daniela got off to a good start and took the first set comfortably. Na Li came back at her though and took the 2nd set so we had to wait a little while longer. Some other people had come along to watch the Murrays: Mr and Mrs Henman in the house! Some of the female Team Murray contingent :) In the 3rd set it looked like Na Li would take control and then suddenly Daniela decided to prove me wrong (I said she has a habit of winning a first set then losing) and she did indeed come through and win! So, finall...

Olympics Tennis at Wimbledon - Sat 28th July (Part 2)

Now, as mentioned earlier we had tickets for Court 1 where play was due to start at 1200 so we decided to head over to Court 2 on arrival as Kim Clijsters was up first against Roberta Vinci. I have to say the OOP on court 2 was much more appealing for the whole day - many of the Court 1 matches lloked like they would be a bit dull....not sure why they were scheduled like that? So, we went into court 2 and it was surprisingly empty. We sat about 6 rows from the front - could have been closer but we decided that we liked the view from our row :) Kim has been a favourite of mine on the WTA tour for a while and so I was pleased to be able to see her play again :) Although Vinci is currently ranked higher I expected this to be competitive and thought it likely that Kim could win. Here we are watching the match (Rob taking the photo): This was a good match for Kim, she appeared to be in control for the majority of the match. Team Clijsters looking on And control ...

Olympics Tennis at Wimbledon - Sat 28th July (Part 1)

Background Back when the ticket ballot process for the Olympics opened up I tried to get tickets to the tennis at Wimbledon and failed miserably. This was probably because I refused to select lots of sessions which I couldn't afford if I got them all but still! I picked up a pair of football tickets for Cardiff when they were released for open sales but still no tennis. Finally, when they allowed previously unsuccessful applicants another chance for tickets I managed to grab 4 tickets for Court No 1 on the first day of the tennis tournament....after not getting any Wimbledon tickets this year I was really pleased :) So, I asked Jennifer if she would like to come along with us. (Rob, his mum and me!) We booked train tickets and arranged to meet Jennifer at Wimbledon station as there was a free shuttle bus available (and it meant no changes for us as the train goes through Wimbledon.) It felt like it took forever to get here but finally the day arrived! We had a tiny dr...

Olympic Torch Relay - 12th July 2012

The Olympic torch relay visited Shaftesbury today and so I took the morning off work and went to see it as it was so close. I arranged with a work colleague to go along with her and her son and we took advantage of having friends and family nearby and so we parked in Rob's parents house! We arrived in Shaftesbury about 8.45 and walked to town. We picked a spot near the bottom of the high street and waited...! Shortly after the town band came through: The band was closely followed by a car which had a torchbearer from sometime in the 1950's I think (?) Then we had a procession of various relay vehicles: Apparently I am supposed to be getting my photos to have blurry backgrounds and not blurry cars etc.....unfortunately I haven't quite mastered it! A couple of the torch security team come through before the torch arrives: Then finally here comes the torch: And then it is gone again: Now, my cunning plan was to...
