Olympics Tennis at Wimbledon - Sat 28th July (Part 2)
Now, as mentioned earlier we had tickets for Court 1 where play was due to start at 1200 so we decided to head over to Court 2 on arrival as Kim Clijsters was up first against Roberta Vinci.
I have to say the OOP on court 2 was much more appealing for the whole day - many of the Court 1 matches lloked like they would be a bit dull....not sure why they were scheduled like that?
So, we went into court 2 and it was surprisingly empty. We sat about 6 rows from the front - could have been closer but we decided that we liked the view from our row :)
Kim has been a favourite of mine on the WTA tour for a while and so I was pleased to be able to see her play again :) Although Vinci is currently ranked higher I expected this to be competitive and thought it likely that Kim could win.
Here we are watching the match (Rob taking the photo):
This was a good match for Kim, she appeared to be in control for the majority of the match.
And control the match she did, coming through in straight sets and only taking about an hour to do so.
Up next was John Isner vs Olivier Rochus. Jennifer wanted to watch a bit of this match to support her fellow American and as the match on Court 1 was Nalbandian vs Tipsaravic we decided to stay too.
There were quite a few giggles at the start of this match as the photographer had to adjust to take account of the height difference :)
This started off with Isner not playing especially well. He was holding serve ok but not really putting any pressure on the Rochus serve.
Jennifer and I came to the conclusion that if Rochus managed to break he would win the set and if it went to a tie break then Isner would probably win.
Well, no breaks materialised and Isner did indeed take the tie break quite comfortably.
After the first set Rob, his mum and I left Jennifer watching the match to go and grab a bite to eat.
We wandered around for a while the got pasties and baguettes from under centre court. We then discovered that there was a much less busy place to get food back towards court 2 where we sat and ate ours!
We discussed whether to go over to court 1 for a while but decided that people might eventually realise that the Murrays were going to play on court 2 so instead we headed back there to make sure we had seats.
