Olympics Tennis at Wimbledon - Sat 28th July (Part 1)
Background
Back when the ticket ballot process for the Olympics opened up I tried to get tickets to the tennis at Wimbledon and failed miserably. This was probably because I refused to select lots of sessions which I couldn't afford if I got them all but still!
I picked up a pair of football tickets for Cardiff when they were released for open sales but still no tennis.
Finally, when they allowed previously unsuccessful applicants another chance for tickets I managed to grab 4 tickets for Court No 1 on the first day of the tennis tournament....after not getting any Wimbledon tickets this year I was really pleased :)
So, I asked Jennifer if she would like to come along with us. (Rob, his mum and me!)
We booked train tickets and arranged to meet Jennifer at Wimbledon station as there was a free shuttle bus available (and it meant no changes for us as the train goes through Wimbledon.)
It felt like it took forever to get here but finally the day arrived!
We had a tiny drama on saturday morning as Rob's brother's girlfriend went into labour at about 6am so his dad got roped into babysitting the children. He brought Rob's mum down to the train station and we walked from our house in lovely weather :)
Got on the train at 0850 and it was packed....no seats anywhere! They were adding more carriages at Salisbury but we took advantage of the Weekend First promotion and upgraded to first class for £5 each....which gave us nice big comfy seats :)
Texted Jennifer to see how her journey was going and found that her train was a little delayed and also that she had a contact lens related disaster in the morning and had missed her bus and had to run to the station!
Our journey went smoothly and we arrived at Wimbledon station at 1030. We went for a quick wander outside as we waited a few minutes for Jennifer. She arrived about 15 minutes later and we headed over to the shuttle bus......we were advised that the queue was getting long so we decided to walk instead.
Got to security at about 1120 and went through the airport style scanners.....got a text from Dave who then chastised me for texting whilst in there....!
Security was over pretty quickly and finally we were in!
