Not another holiday...! A relaxing trip to Barbados Day 5


Fri 5th Sept

Today we went down for breakfast at around 9am. We were having our car delivered at 10 and met the guy in the lobby.
 
 
Once we got all of the paperwork finished we headed off to Bridgetown to get some Barbados dollars. Parked the car and found a bank....yay! It didn’t take us too long to swap our pounds and we got an exchange rate of 3.2 Barbados dollars to the pound.
 
We headed back to the hotel to store some of our cash and grab a quick drink – it was quite hot driving around in our doorless car!
Then we were off to explore....we got a bit lost and drove around Bridgetown twice before finding the right road. We went up past Holetown and Speightstown before reaching the Animal Flower Cave.
We bought a print from some random guy on the way in and then paid our entry fee to the cave (think it was 20BDS each).

There were some amazing views and once the cafe/restaurant is completed then it will probably be a much more complete attraction. It was extremely peaceful as there were only the guides and another couple visiting whilst we were there.
We headed back toward Bridgetown which was easier going back as we had an idea of which way we were heading. We did hit a small rain shower but thankfully stayed mostly dry despite the lack of doors.
We got back to the hotel and had a bit of a cool down watching a little bit of tv in the room.
By now it was time for some more drinks and snacks (ham and cheese panini and a very odd veggie wrap – which was a wrap with lettuce and mayo!)
We decided to head to Hastings to find dinner tonight and we ended up at Bubbas sports bar :) Very similar to a sports bar that you would find in the USA – you can see there are 2 main influences in Barbados – British and American!
Dinner over and we headed back to the hotel for more lazing about watching tv.

Tuesday This morning we had breakfast at 0830 before getting ready to leave the ship for a few hours. I had a fruit plate and toast and I'm sure Rob had an omelette but I don't seem to have taken a photo. We took the shuttle into Belfast which was $15 each, oddly (with all the enforced distancing on board) we were reasonably well packed into our bus and apparently some people couldn't wear masks despite being reminded that NI still required them. We walked from the tourist info centre towards the waterfront and the sun even came out for a little bit. We found a shopping centre and took a look in a few stores, although we didn't buy anything. We walked around for a while longer - Rob used to travel to Belfast regularly for work so wanted to show me a few places. We decided on Five Guys for lunch (a little taste of the USA) as we don't have one any where near us; it was good but the fries were a bit too salty. A touch of Disney and 2 cruises in a week! Day 4 - 1st day at Liverpool

Wednesday This morning we had an even later start - we arrived in Liverpool at around 0800 not that we were really aware of the ship docking. We had breakfast in the Windjammer as we were too late for the MDR, the food was good but it was a little noisy so we planned to go back to the MDR for the next day. For some reason I have forgotten photos again - Rob had an omelette and I had toast and some fruit and yoghurt. After breakfast we enquired about booking Coastal Kitchen for dinner - as we were in a Junior Suite we could only book dinner and only if they had space (but of course numbers on this cruise were so low that they had space!) We wandered around the ship and got coffee which we drank in Two70 - I'm fairly sure we watched some performers rehearsing. A touch of Disney and 2 cruises in a week! Day 2 (At Sea)

Monday We had a little lie in today, and headed down to breakfast at 0930. The staff appeared happy to have some guests to look after (I think we had about 6 people looking after us) and we were quickly supplied with coffee, tea and pastries. We browsed the menu and I selected French toast whilst Rob had an omelette. During our meal we were checked on regularly and my coffee was kept topped up. While we were there Head Waiter Edwin booked us Chops Grille and Jamie’s (at a cost of $80 each) which was great - Rob had been keen to try Chops but we hadn't really wanted to pay $55 each for 1 meal. We picked up a cappuccino for me on the way back to our room, then lazed about for a little while. We then popped to the shops and casino (where we successfully lost our free $4 credit) and went to a jewellery ‘talk’.
